Traceroute Command


1.   Open command prompt and type in "tracert" then type in the website for example tracert www.google.com or tracert google.com




You can also use the IP address of a website instead of website address. e.g tracert 209.85.171.100 for www.google.com


The following is a successful traceroute of "www.google.com"






Traceroute Usage Examples:
  • Tracert www.google.com
  • Tracert google.com
  • Tracert 209.85.171.100


Traceroute Options/Switches


Traceroute Usage:
tracert[-d] [-h maximum_hops] [-j host-list] [-w timeout] target_name


Options:

-dDo not resolve addresses to hostnames.
-h maximum_hopsMaximum number of hops to search for target.
-j host-listLoose source route along host-list.
-w timeoutWait timeout milliseconds for each reply.
